2010 Winter TEAM FEES

Captains/Players,

Due to the change in the start date to the Winter 2010 season, some confusion has arisen as to the correct due date for team fees.

After careful consideration of the spirit of the relevant bylaw (ByLaw 16) and in an effort to allow as much time as possible for teams to collect fees, the Executive Committee have decided to set the due date for Winter fees to the September Committee Meeting (6 September). Even though this is after Round 8, the $10 late fee has been waived.

HOWEVER, all fees MUST be paid on or before this meeting, otherwise teams WILL be placed on the debtors register and all wins declared forfeits, as per ByLaw 19, if fees are not received by the close of the meeting on September 6.

2010 Summer Finals Round 1: Draw

Hi all

What a close finish to a few of the divisions!

The Finals are here and for those first timers, as well as a few regulars who would like a reminder, the Finals run on a double elimination draw, which basically means you have to lose twice before you are knocked out. The first two rounds are played at the home venue of the team ranked higher on the ladder, whereas the Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals will be held at neutral venues. (sample draw is below)

News: new State Trials rules and format

[UPDATE]: For those who missed the sarcasm (and the dateline), the article below is an April Fools joke. Gotcha.

Players,

After discussion amongst the State Executive Committee, the following changes will be implemented for this year's Open State Trials.

1. All frames will be timed. Players will be required to keep time for their opponents, and call "30 seconds" or apply time fouls as appropriate.

2. Due to many groups being run in licensed premises, and to improve the image of ACTEBA in the wider community, a dress code for State Trials players will now be mandatory. Players are required to wear a collared shirt, closed black shoes, and dark business pants or skirt.

3. All players are required to register their arrival on the day 60 (sixty) minutes before the scheduled start of play. If you are not registered with the adjudicator at this time, you will not play.

4. Instead of the breaking player alternating between rounds, players may elect to randomly choose who breaks each round, either by coin toss or rock/paper/scissors.

5. A new results reporting system will be implemented. Instead of the winning player reporting verbally to the adjudicator, results will be entered into a PC or laptop at the adjudicator's area. This system will also schedule matches, and display realtime results on a data projector or plasma screen (depending on the venue).

6. All Top 32 seeeded players must adjudicate a Round 1 group. Alternately, they may choose to be roving referees, or Refreshment Coordinators (see below.)

7. In an effort to speed up play and avoid players spending excessive time away from the playing area, a Refreshment Coordinator will be appointed to each group, who will fill food and beverage orders from players (as long as they can be filled without the Coordinator leaving the premises.)

8. Force Majeure - if a player completes Round 1 without losing a frame, they will be automatically granted a Wild Card entry into this year's State Team. Players who complete Round 2 without losing a frame will be granted a Wild Card entry into the Australian Team, and players who complete Round 3 without losing a frame will be drug tested.

9. In the event of a tie for first, second, third or fourth positions after the end of four rounds, players may elect to break the deadlock with a single "off-hand" game (right-handers play with their left hand, and vice-versa), rather than a best-of-three knockout.

10. All frames will be videotaped, and a video-referee system implemented. At the end of the day's play, the video adjudicator will award the "Most Awesome Shot of the Day" trophy, and the winner will be entitled to a free beverage of their choice.

11. At the end of the tournament, a small awards ceremony will be held, with prizes in the following categories: "Best Frame of the Tournament", "Jaggiest Shot Ever", "Best Escape from a Snooker", "Most Hilarious Foul", "Best Use of Trash-Talk", and "Most Likely to Need Cue Repair". Other categories and awards will be announced later.

We are confident that these small changes will provide you with a better playing experience, and hope you will embrace them with enthusiasm.

2010 Richard Taliaferro Sportsperson of the Year Award

Voting is now open for the 2010 Richard Taliaferro Sportsperson of the Year Award (nominations closed on February 1). The purpose of this award is to perpetually recognize and congratulate ACTEBA members for consistent displays of outstanding sportsmanship.

During the nomination period, any current ACTEBA member (or if between seasons any member of the last completed season) may nominate any member that they believe to have consistently displayed outstanding sportsmanship over a period of at least the previous two full consecutive seasons. A nomination will count as one vote to the nominee.

Any member may register one vote only for any one nominee by informing the ACTEBA webmaster (click on the Contact Form to email the webmaster, or via sms/phone to 0413130984).

Voting closes on 15 February 2009. Nominees for 2010 are:

Penny Foudoulis, Edmund Chen, Alison Murphy, Steve Phillips, Melissa Chapelli, Doug Percy, and Kevin Harrow.

A news item on The Riot-ACT website brings word that the Chisholm Tavern will be changing its name to The Jag Bar.

We welcome you to run riot with the ample opportunity for wordplay in the comments.

Also, local rock/blues/mod/pop juggernauts The Feldons will be kicking out the jams at the newly monickered Jag Bar this Sunday (December 13). Drop in for some good tunes from 2.30.
