2012 Junior Nationals
By now all ACTEBA members should be aware that ACT is again hosting a national 8ball titles. Following on from our success in 2009 with the senior event, next week we will host the best junior 8ball players in Australia as they seek an Australian title. The juniors are from all states and territories in Australia, and addition to seeking the title for team play, there will be individual titles in U12, U15 and U18 on offer. The event starts on the afternoon of Sun 15 January 2012 and goes through to Sat 21 January 2012. The event is being hosted at the Harmonie Club of Canberra in Narrabundah. Matches run all day and start around 9am finishing around 5pm. I encourage anyone who can attend to drop in and watch some great pool and cheer on the ACT Team. Previous ACT Juniors include Nicole Welsh, Dean Welsh, Matt Harmon and Steve Woods. The junior competition is where our future stars can be found.
ACT retains a fantastic record when it comes to refereeing I would like this to continue. If anyone can umpire a few games (and get the best seat in the house for the match) that would be greatly appreciated.
To date the organising committee in conjunciton with the AEBF committee have arranged the majority of the details. However we are down to the physical end and we will need people to assist in setting the room up on Sat 14 January. Exact timings to follow but any assistance would be appreciated. There may also be a need for some assistance at the presentation night on Sat 21 January.

Ladies Final Result
ACT 7 - 13 VIC
The ACT Ladies have finished Australian Runners-Up in a fantastic effort! After sitting at 4-4, the Vics won six straight to lead 10-4, from which position the battle was always going to be hard for our girls.
Congratulations to all the girls on a brilliant Nationals campaign.

ACT LADIES MAKE NATIONAL FINAL!!!
A massive effort from the ACT Ladies Team has seen them become the first ACT side to make a National Final! Lead by Captain Les O'Connor and tournament top shooter Nicole Welsh, the girls lead from the front to hold off WA in the 3rd/4th semi final to win 13-10.
In the Preliminary Final, the girls took an even bigger lead to maintain an advantage over Qld and come out winners 13-8.
The Ladies Team play their Grand Final against Victoria tomorrow at 12 midday. The entire ACT Eight Ball Association wishes them luck in what will be a tough match. The girls have shown they can match the best in the country and now it is time to show what they can do. Win or lose, though, they have made us all proud, but let's not get ahead of ourselves - they're gonna win dammit!!!
PS I will hold my end of tournament review off by another day...
Regards

Nationals Round Robin comes to an end
As you've seen from Matt K's post below, the ACT Ladies have made the finals for the second straight year!!!
I'm still waiting on the final stats to come on to the AEBF website, but I can confirm that Nicole Welsh has come equal first in the stats for the Ladies!!!! This is a great result for Nicole and apparently something she was not aware of until the final matches were being played.

Congratulations Nicole Welsh and Steven Woods on their Australian Selections!!!
Nicole has capped a successful 2009 Nationals with Selection in the 2010 Australian Ladies Eight Ball Team. This is Nicole's third selection in the national side and comes after captaining the ACT Ladies Team to their best ever result, as well as finishing 5th in the players stats for the Ladies. Nicole was also equal 1st for the Ladies in Master Breaks. In a great result for Nicole and the ACT, she was the third player selected.
Steve, while playing for NSW this year, has now made his 4th national side as the 5th player selected. Steve's selection comes on the back of shooting 4th best in the stats and 3rd best in Master Breaks. Steve also made it to Round of 16 in the Singles.
Well done Nicole and Steve!

Ladies Semi Final at 12pm Today!
Last night the Open team came agonizingly close to making the finals, losing 13-11 to NSW in their last match after earlier handing the Vics their first defeat of the tournament. It was a great effort by the team and shows promise of what to expect in future years.
The Ladies play Victoria in their semi final at midday today, and if successful they will qualify for the Preliminary final at 4pm. I will post the result of the semi as soon as I know it.
Final Score - ACT 6 - 13 Victoria (race to 13)
Well done to the Ladies Team on a great effort in achieving the highest finish by an ACT side at the Nationals!

ACT Making History!
All three ACT teams have a chance to record their highest finish at the Nationals today, with the Ladies and Open Teams playing to maintain their places in the top 4. Both teams have previously finished 5th but never made the finals.
Yesterday the Masters finished in 5th spot, a great improvement from last place in 2008.
At the time of writing, the Ladies hold a 2 point lead on the ladder over WA, with both teams playing teams lower on the ladder than they are in their final round - I will update when I get a result.
UPDATE: the Ladies won their final round match which guarantees them 3rd place on the ladder! Well done Ladies!
The Open are playing their last two round robin matches this afternoon at 2pm and 4.30pm, and currently hold a 1 point lead over WA and Tassie, who are set to play each other in the last round. ACT have 1st placed Victoria followed by 7th place NSW, which could be the deciding match.
Live scores http://www.aebf.com.au/
But if you work in town, come on down to Rydges to cheer the Open Team on in their last round robin match from 4.30pm

Well done to Cindy Blackmore on reaching the Round of 16 in the Ladies Singles! Cindy will be playing at 9am on Saturday, so come down and cheer our last remaining singles player.
Meanwhile, all three teams scored wins yesterday, keeping the Ladies in 3rd spot and the Open in equal 4th, just 2 points behind 2nd place.
