2012 State Trials Results: 9 Ball
The 2012 ACTEBA 9-Ball Championships were held on the weekend of 3-4 March.
Congratulations to Mick Norton for winning the Open 9 ball event, and Cindy Blackmore for winning the Ladies 9 ball event! For his efforts, Mick took home $245 and Cindy $110.
Mick beat a very determined Theresa Whitten 9-5 in the final, whilst Cindy defeated Theresa 6-1. Theresa collects $190 for her efforts. In the Open, losing semi-finalists (and therefore still getting $50 each) were Dragan Markovic and Phil Thorp.
Cheers,

State Trials: 2012 9-ball (3rd-4th March)
Hi players and 9 ball entrants,
We have finalised the details for the 9 ball events to be run on 3rd & 4th March. This year, we will be running a standard knockout event, rather than (as in recent years) a double elimination format. The event will be held at Kaleen Bar & Bistro, from 11am both days.
We have 37 entries in the Open, and 5 in the Ladies. The plan will be to run both events at the same time, with the goal of finishing the Ladies on the day, however there is little chance of finishing the Open, so if you play well please expect to return on the Sunday. As this is the first time we've run the 9 ball event on only 4 tables, we are unsure how long it will take, however we will aim to finish by 6pm Saturday night and then resume at 11am Sunday morning.
We will use a 32 and 4 player draw, with 4 and 2 seeds respectively. Seeds in the Open are 1 - Matt Harmon, 2 - Dragan Markovic, 3 - Mick Norton and 4 - Anthony Chia. In the ladies, it's 1 - Nicole Welsh and 2 - Cindy Blackmore. The draws will be done on the day.
Format for the Open:
The prelim rounds (5 matches) - race to 5
Round 1 - race to 5
Round of 16 - race to 6
Quarter finals - race to 7
Semi finals - race to 8
Final - race to 9
Format for the Ladies:
The prelim rounds (1 match) - race to 4
Semi finals - race to 5
Final - race to 6

2012 Divisional Championships
Hi again,
OK, I've managed to sort things out for the divisional playoffs this weekend, apologies for the late notice. I'm not used to having to organise such events, and am finding it takes a fair amount of time and effort, so I'm not looking forward to the trials later this year lol…
Captains - please let your players know these details tonight, as whilst I have sent this to all participating players, not all of them have an email address. In the tables below, I have put brackets around players that are unable to make it, and starred the names I am yet to hear from. Everyone else should turn up - please let me know if you are now unable to be there...
The format is simple, a round robin followed by a grand final only, so you'll have to be playing well all day to win the trophy. The round robins will be as follows (depending on how many players make it):
8 or 7 players - single frame;
6 players - single frame (twice);
5 or 4 players - best of threes;
3 players only - best of fives.
After the round robin, the top 2 players will play in the GF (best of five). If a tie occurs (eg for 2nd) then a best of 2 playoff will determine positions.
The venues and times have also been sorted, with all divisions commencing at 12 noon. The tables may or may not be open prior for a bit of practice. I expect the playoffs should conclude between 3pm and 5pm. The only thing I haven't sorted yet is an adjudicator, so if someone out there wants to help (and save me a few phone calls) please let me know…
Division 1: Saturday, 12 noon, Canberra Labor Club
Division 2: Saturday, 12 noon, Ojo Café & Bar
Division 3: Saturday, 12 noon, Kaleen Bar & Bistro

2012 Junior Nationals
By now all ACTEBA members should be aware that ACT is again hosting a national 8ball titles. Following on from our success in 2009 with the senior event, next week we will host the best junior 8ball players in Australia as they seek an Australian title. The juniors are from all states and territories in Australia, and addition to seeking the title for team play, there will be individual titles in U12, U15 and U18 on offer. The event starts on the afternoon of Sun 15 January 2012 and goes through to Sat 21 January 2012. The event is being hosted at the Harmonie Club of Canberra in Narrabundah. Matches run all day and start around 9am finishing around 5pm. I encourage anyone who can attend to drop in and watch some great pool and cheer on the ACT Team. Previous ACT Juniors include Nicole Welsh, Dean Welsh, Matt Harmon and Steve Woods. The junior competition is where our future stars can be found.
ACT retains a fantastic record when it comes to refereeing I would like this to continue.If anyone can umpire a few games (and get the best seat in the house for the match) that would be greatly appreciated.
To date the organising committee in conjunciton with the AEBF committee have arranged the majority of the details. However we are down to the physical end and we will need people to assist in setting the room up on Sat 14 January. Exact timings to follow but any assistance would be appreciated. There may also be a need for some assistance at the presentation night on Sat 21 January.
