Results: 2010 Open Singles Round 3
Hi all
[UPDATED 31/5/10 15:20 - fixed link to results. Thanks, Ted.]
The race for the state team / state title is really heating up now. With the round of 64 behind us, we now head into the final 32 players to battle it out for that elusive Top 16 spot.
As I said last week, this round was where the big boys come into play. Going into the final round before the Top 16, 23 of the 33 seeds are left standing. Of the 10 that fell this round, it included two of last year’s Top 16, who came to grief in one of the tightest groups of the round. Whilst this group avoided a playoff, a few others came down to the last frame of the day or did make it to a playoff.
I’ll leave it to you all to sift through the results, but I’ll put my two bobs’ worth in on the dominators once again. Mongrel and Anthony Chia hit 22/6, Steve Thomas and Kenny Nicol hit 21/7, but Matt Harmon out-dominated everyone with a 21/3 round. (Am I inventing new words with out-dominated?)
In addition to topping his group, Anthony also welcomed a beautiful little boy into his life on Tuesday. Congratulations to Anthony and his wife – if this is your first, welcome to the world of nappies. I actually have one due any day now, so maybe in 25 years time the names Chia and Jones will battle it out for the state title while their old men are fighting it out in the masters…
Commiserations to the players who bowed out this round – I’d be stoked to have made it as far as you. In fact I did one year, you can read about… yeah no one cares…
Seriously, we really are getting to the business end of the tournament. Whilst the word “gimme” was thrown out two rounds ago, the level of play required to get through this round is way above what most of us can imagine. Yes, some of the seeds have fallen, but the players who knocked them out are obviously deserving to be where they are.
I can’t wait for this weekend to see who busts it open for a Top 16 spot, and good luck for all 32 players remaining.

Results: 2010 Open Singles Round 2
Hi all
Another massive weekend (well not as massive as last weekend, but still…) has been completed in the 2010 Open Singles Trials. With Round One well behind us, the players this weekend were finding that there were definitely no easy frames to be played. But while the standard of play and quality of players was impressive this weekend, just wait until next weekend when the big boys (and lovely lady) come in with the introduction of the seeds. Results: 2010 Winter Finals Week 3, Grand Final Draw
Hi all
While it was a disappointing end to my team's season last night, next week proves to be an exciting finish to the Summer Competition. Once again the Embalmers and Hammerheads will battle it out for the Division One title - can the Hammerheads break the Embalmers streak of 4 straight premierships?
With two overtimes last night proving just how close the those divisions are, we also see 3 out of the 6 minor premiers miss out the Grand Finals.
Well done to the teams who bowed out last night for a good season and good luck to all the Grand Final teams.
Below are the results from last night and the venues for next week's Grand Finals (just need to confirm one more venue). Make sure you get along to see the best teams in each division fight out what should be 6 excellent matches.

Results: 2010 Open Singles Round 1
Hi all
What an interesting weekend to kick off the largest Open Singles title race we’ve ever seen. I’ve only got records dating back 7 years of the ACTEBA’s 21, but even then 7 years ago we had 65 players enter the Open Singles title. This year we had 185!!!! That’s roughly 3 times as many and shows the commitment our members have to improving their game and strengthening the overall skill level of the association. Need a fix for those Wednesday Night off season blues? You can tell your wife/husband the eight ball comp is still going...
The Maram is holding eight ball comps on Wednesday nights for the next 8 weeks starting at 7pm. There will be two comps with entry fees of $5 and $20. All entry fees are split between the finalists and an additional $50 bar tab will be awarded to the winner of each comp.
Come on down and put your money where your pool cue is to win $$$.
Be sure to check out pool comps at other ACTEBA supporting venues for some great practice.
