Results: 2009 Open Singles Round 1
The 2009 Open Singles State Title and Selection Trials are under way! The 2 days of this wekend saw 6 venues host 122 players for a total of 1,236 frames.
All reports from the adjudicators were of smoothly run days, which is a credit to all players involved. Unfortunately there were a number of early withdrawals, which can't be helped, but also a number of no shows, which did lead to some unbalanced groups (one group only had 4 players!). Nevertheless, all 64 players who qualified for Round 2 did extremely well to get there, and there were a few surprises along the way.
From here we move to 8 groups of 8 players next weekend, with the top 4 again moving on to Round 3 to join the 32 seeds. As usual, we will not be playing on the long weekend, so round 3 will be held on the following weekend, 13/14 June.
The groups and venues for Round 2 will be finalised Monday night, and will be emailed that night. From here until the end of the tournament, I will be working on Sunday evenings, so results will not be available until Monday night (so potentially you will receive them on Tuesday morning). I will try to get them out earlier, but realistically I probably won't have time.
Thank you to all the venues this weekend, we look forward to a successful couple months in partnership with you. And of course a thank you to the adjudicators, without whom we would not be able play at all. Players, remember these guys and gals give up their day to look after you, and I hear many of them drink Carlton Draught...
Bad luck to the players who bowed out this round, but if it makes you feel better you could not possibly have played worse than I did!!
As I said earlier, I wll send the groups for Round 2 out on Monday night.
Please find below the results from Round 1 (players in bold qualify for Round 2).

2009 Open Singles: Round 1 Venues and Start Times
The updated groupings for Round 1 of the Open Singles are now available.
Please note that different venues have different start times - check the information at the top of your group carefully. All venues will be open for practice 30 minutes before the listed start times.

The tournament Director will be emailing this tonight, however as not all players put an email address on their forms, it would be a good idea for captains to pass these details to their players.

Players,
Apologies for the unexpected downtime. As I understand it from our hosting provider, the server experienced some hardware issues, however all data has been relocated to another server and everything (hopefully) should now be OK.
The Tournement Director has informed me that venue information for this weekend's opening round of the Open Singles championships will be released late tonight (after 11pm). Check back here tomorrow morning for details.

Summer 2009 Season Wrapup
Hi all
Another season has come and gone, and I hope it's been a good one for everyone. I can tell you now it's been a great one for about 40 players, with their teams winning the Grand Finals on Wednesday night.
The Motley Cues faced an early deficit in division 5 against the Gremlins, before Captain Robbie Howe "went foe it" to avenge last season's grand final loss to the Rail Runners with a 13-9 victory.
The Jets had a great season, missing the 4th division minor premiership by 1 point, but made amends with a 13-10 win over the Demons, regaining their spot in 3rd division.
Division 3 saw the Pumas go in as hot favourites after an almost unbeaten season, but the Seriuos Fouls caused an upset when they ran out winners in a tight game, 13-11.
The DV8s ran out to a massive lead in the division 2 grand final, before the Pidos came back strongly in round 3. Soorage and his team then picked up their game and sealed a relatively easy win 13-9 to nail a really big trophy.
Division 1 once again proved to be the biggest match of the Grand Final evening. The Embalmers took on the Stickmen and the match ran neck and neck right up until the final frame, resulting in a 12 all draw and a playoff. The Embalmers then surprised the Stickmen by nailing the playoff 3-0 and yet another Division One Title.
I'd like to thank all players and in particular the captains for another successful season of Eight Ball. But there is no rest for the wicked, with the Masters this weekend preceding two months of Open State Team Trials. For those who haven't checked it out yet, the groups for the first round are available on the Docs and Forms page with venues to be confirmed this weekend.
A big thank you of course to the venues who have supported us this season by hosting teams, we look forward to another great season in 6 weeks time.
Don't forget State of Origin starts next week, for details see below.
Remember that nominations for the Winter Season are due at the next meeting.
Good luck to all players in the trials, and I will see you all next season.
Regards
Chris Jones
